This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors. Scot Young Research has joined forces with the University of Wolverhampton on this KTP project to enable them to establish a range of robotic cleaning solutions. SYR currently provides a diverse range of cleaning systems and is a market leader in the provision of manual cleaning systems. By use of robotics, the company seeks to make a fundamental change in the industrial and office cleaning industries to ensure that the highest standards of cleaning are consistently applied.
This a a fixed term contract up to 23 months.
The successful candidate will be required to participate in the development of self-guided robotic products for cleaning and the establishment of a production facility for these products within SYR.
We seek a minimum BSc (Hons) 2:1 in a relevant discipline – a strong electronic engineering and computer systems aspect is essential. These may include but are not limited to Mechatronics, Computer Systems Engineering, Electronic Engineering or closely related subject. Likewise essential is familiarity with circuit design as appropriate to embedded systems.
You must show an enthusiasm for research, and excellent problem solving skills. Knowledge of Python, C and C++, familiarity with the Linux OS and development environments, cameras, vision systems and motor control would be an advantage. An understanding of production digital systems and commercial exploitation would also be an advantage, as would any relevant work experience.
The post holder will need to be a confident communicator with highly developed written, oral and presentation skills, capable of publishing in scientific journals, and be able to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external contacts, including SYR customers in the UK and abroad.
Good project management skills and an interest in training and embedding knowledge to staff are also essential. Some business acumen and understanding of business planning and pressures would be an advantage.
To support your commitment to continuous self-development you will have a generous personal development budget in addition to Management Training provided by the KTP scheme. Additional training in software, hardware and areas as required by the project will be provided as necessary.
You will be employed by The University of Wolverhampton and will be based at SYR in Lye with significant time spent using the Computer Science laboratory provision at the University of Wolverhampton. You must be willing and able to travel independently both within the UK and overseas.
