The post holder will work with The University of Sheffield and Phoenix Calibration & Services Ltd. in the area of high
temperature testing facilities for all metallurgical sectors. The post is funded through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership
(KTP) with contributions from Phoenix Calibration & Services Ltd.
The principal aim of the project will be to embed the knowledge, skills and technical capabilities to specify and combine, for the testing of a selection of key materials of interest to the target sectors: load train materials and designs; heating technologies; testing environments (for example inert gas, vacuum); and sample insertion/removal techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to have a sound understanding of Metallurgy and metals characterisation techniques, and in mechanical testing and/or physical simulations.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Metallurgy or Materials (or have equivalent experience), experience of
mechanical testing and/or physical simulations of metals and of leading and managing projects.
