THE JOB / ROLE

This KTP project offers an excellent opportunity for a talented post-doctoral graduate to develop a career in operational research, with the full support of experienced commercial and academic mentors.

THE COMPANY

Ocado is the world's largest dedicated online grocery supermarket with over 580,000 active customers. The unique online grocer is wholly focussed on the home delivery of high-quality food, drink and household goods. Ocado’s objective is to provide customers with the best shopping experience in terms of service, range and price. In contrast to its main competitors, the company has no chain of stores and fulfills all home deliveries from its automated warehouses. This two-year KTP is a significant strategic project for the company which entails the development and implementation of a new cutting edge optimisation algorithm to enhance the vehicle routing system currently used by Ocado, allowing the optimisation to be run over a much larger geographic area. This will be the first time this type of logistics planning innovation is applied in a commercial environment.
Skills required: Candidates who are motivated, diligent, and innovative are sought for this exciting new role. You should hold a PhD in operational research and/or computer science, and be able to demonstrate your ability to work both independently and in teams to solve problems and produce high quality outputs within time and budgetary constraints. To achieve the objectives of the project it will be necessary to work closely with staff at all levels of the organization, as well as with external customers, so excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role. It is desirable for candidates to have postgraduate management qualifications, industrial work experience, and project/change management skills; however, these attributes can be developed in-post as necessary.
