This KTP project offers a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious graduate to launch a career in industry with the support of company and academic mentors. This is a 30 month KTP project. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) are part funded by Innovate UK to support business-university interactions in the UK. The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Wolverhampton, and will be based at Eumar Technologies/Sentient Foams in Hereford, with time also spent using the Chemical Engineering laboratory provision if necessary at the Wolverhampton City campus. Independent travel within the UK and overseas may be required. The KTP offers supervisory and mentoring support from the company and the university to the successful candidate to ensure the project delivers its intended outcomes.
Sentient Foams require an outstanding individual to support development and lead the validation, process stability and productivity improvements of new products made from innovative new absorbent foam. Sentient Foams is part of a group of companies (including Eumar) who specialize in the development and manufacture of innovative products from highly absorbent materials.
Sentient is a brand new Aliphatic foam which has exciting opportunities for use in Hygiene, Healthcare and Cosmetic applications. Sentient Foam’s Limited (SFL) is seeking a Process Engineer to join the Technical team of SFL. You will support development and lead the validation, process stability and productivity improvements of products made from this innovative new absorbent foam.
The Process Engineer will work with the management team responsible for Technical, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing. They will be responsible for taking product design concepts through to commercial production. The responsibilities will include product design evaluation, improvement and validation. They will also be involved in process design and optimization, data analysis and communication of results. The work may also involve preparation of technical files for Medical devices. The key project scope is to work closely with the Technical and Manufacturing team to transfer development projects to full production status.
Ideal candidates should be able to work independently and will have a degree in chemistry/chemical engineering/polymer science with relevant experience in manufacturing and/or medical devices. However new graduates with the right ambitions and aptitude will be closely considered.
The candidate will be expected to undertake management training early in the project. Sentient Foams will provide in-house training as necessary and the KTP will fund external training which may be required, particularly as related to building Medical Regulatory knowledge. 6-Sigma training will also be supported as appropriate.
Ideal candidates should be able to work independently and will have at least a first degree (1st or 2.1) in chemistry/chemical engineering/polymer science with some relevant experience in manufacturing and/or medical devices. However new graduates with the right ambitions and aptitude will also be considered. Ideally you should have a demonstrated background in chemicals/polymers used in Medical devices, and:
• Ability to analyse complex data sets and make product conclusions and recommendations
• Excellent problem solving techniques
• Self-motivation, with the ability to set objectives and meet milestones for multiple projects
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Must be able to communicate results and needs to technical colleagues and suppliers
• Good teamwork and collaboration skills
Main duties and responsibilities:
• Work with the development team to improve product designs
• Taking outline product designs through to scaled up products which meet market specifications, cost, quality, and productivity goals.
• Conduct and troubleshoot product and process testing in accordance with guidance laid down by relevant Medical device authorities.
• Partner with the manufacturing team to establish quality, validation and process optimization trials for new products.
• Presents technical work to customers and to management within SFL.
• Management and reporting of the KTP programme
